Coudre pour une fillette

15 h 54

I decided to sew for Charlie, a cute, curly and so wonderful little girl. It is rare that I sew for other people then my self. This time I wanted to offer a gift to Charlie. I have a wonderful son to whom I often sew costumes or cool pants but sewing for a little girl is simply something else.

When I started this project, THE big question remain: "What is hot for a 2-3 year old little girl" What do I know about that. I was afraid to be off the rack and sew to garments that would be to old fashion. What colour should I use ? I had in mind to make one denim dress with a contrasting pair of shorts and contrasting yoke. I thought that a light denim with lycra would be nice and I could match it with some granny smith coloured cotton. Unfortunately, the light blue denim they had at Madeleine Soie et Laine was not in a shade that appealed to me at all. I then decided on buying the red one with a red and white seersucker.

Interestingly, Seersucker originates from the Persia words "shir o shakar," meaning "milk and sugar", probably from the resemblance of its smooth and rough stripes to the smooth surface of milk and bumpy texture of sugar.

Both out fit can mix and match. I made the red seersucker dress shorter so it could be worn with a t-shirt underneath and a pair of jeans. Summer does not last long and children grow so fast. The red denim dress could also be worn with a blouse, top, t-shirt ... and tights for a more winter look. I hope that Charlie will enjoy it.
